Frescoes and murals

For more than forty years, the Municipality of Sàrmede has hosted the International Children’s Illustration Exhibition which, together with the Theatre Fairs, has helped to turn this small town into a hub for artists from all over the world. Some of these artists, starting with the ‘pioneer’ Štěpán Zavřel, have left their indelible mark on the area in the form of frescoes and mural paintings, sometimes accompanied by actual architectural features such as floors, arches or portals.

In fact, there are more than 60 works of this kind within the municipal area, distributed both in the town centre and in the hillside hamlets of Montaner, Val and Rugolo, as well as inside private homes, bars and restaurants.
